How accessible is the Victorian public transport system? That's what the Accessible Public Transport Watch Project will find out.
Five Wimmera based members of Grampians disAbility Advocacy Association took part in the Accessible Public Transport Watch information and training day in Stawell on 3 August, 2007. Sponsored by the Victorian Council of Social Service, Disability Resources Centre, and Disability Advocacy and Information Service, the project was designed in consultation with people with a disability to investigate, monitor and report on the status of accessibility of the Victorian public transport system.
The project involves small teams of people with different abilities accessing the system and experiencing its features to identify and document issues relevant to their experience. Surveys have been devised for several forms of public transport, including VLine trains, VLine buses, other buses, trams and metropolitan trains.
More than 75 people from across Victoria have come on board for the project.
A report is due later in the year, and will be available on the VCOSS website.
